Law 4: Every productivity tool becomes a headcount weapon.

This is a real story. One employee, $30 an hour, nothing special on paper, went deep on AI tools while the rest of her team kept doing things the old way. Within months she was outproducing the entire group. Fifteen people.

The company could have trained the other fourteen. They fired them instead. Then they quintupled her pay (shouldn’t they have 14x’d it?) and handed her an unlimited AI token budget.

That is the game now. Management does not look at a productivity tool and think "how do we make everyone better." They think "how many people can we cut." The surplus flows to the balance sheet, and maybe, maybe, to the one person who made the cut possible.

You are either the person who absorbs the team or you are on the team being absorbed. There is no middle position. Forget "will AI take my job." The real question is whether your company keeps you once they realize one person can do this.

And if you think making six figures protects you from this math, keep reading.

Autism Superpowers Associated Trends

Here’s what I’ve been reading from the ether that frames our opening story.

46% of home sellers are offering concessions to buyers, an all-time high. The housing market that was supposed to build your wealth is begging people to buy. As a high-earner who’s priced out of home ownership, I say, “let them eat cake!”

$100K in 2026 buys the life that $50K bought in 2008. The salary went up. What it buys went down. You hit the number. The number moved. $200k is the new minimum to declare “I make six figures”.

The degree premium is gone for young men. College-educated men aged 22-27 are unemployed at the same rate as men who never went: 7%. Stanford computer science graduates cannot find work.

The system told you to get the degree, land the job, buy the house. Every link in that chain is broken now. The degree no longer buys the job, and the job no longer buys the house.

I call this status work: performing the rituals of achievement after the payout has collapsed. You still run the maze. The cheese at the end is mysteriously missing… Begs the question, why run anymore?

Stop optimizing for credentials and start optimizing for ownership. The people who survive what is coming are the ones who own their audience, their toolchain, or their distribution channel. Everything else is a leash disguised as a ladder.

Some More Good News in Tech

Y Combinator is funding an AI that helps Indian students apply to American colleges. Yes really. No I couldn’t write a more dystopian and anti-American sentence. The pipeline that displaces domestic tech workers is being automated at the front door. Nobody in charge sees a problem with this.

80% of corporate jobs since 2020 have gone to foreign-born workers. The data keeps saying the same thing. The policy response keeps being nothing.

Moonshot AI, the Chinese AI lab, openly told its users: "We are at GPU capacity. We are pausing new subscriptions until we can serve you properly." Meanwhile, Western frontier labs silently route you to weaker models and publish blog posts about the existential risk of the technology they are selling you at full price. One of these is honest. It is not the one headquartered in San Francisco.

The move

This week: become the AI-leveraged domain expert before someone does it to your team.

The opener story is a blueprint if you can read it without flinching. The employee who survived was not the most senior or the most credentialed. She was the one who went deep on the tools AND deep on the domain.

Here is the concrete version:

  1. Pick one AI tool that touches your actual work. Not a demo. The thing your team ships. Spend five hours this week going deeper than anyone around you.

  2. Document what you can now do alone that used to require coordination. Do not tell your boss yet. Just know the number.

  3. Build external distribution. A newsletter, a YouTube channel, an X account, anything you own. The person who controls their audience cannot be fully captured by an employer. That is Law 6: the safest person in a collapse is the one who controls distribution. Seize distribution and make it your own.

Do not try all three equally. Pick the most urgent one and go hard. Punt the other two til next week.

If this was useful, forward it to one person who still thinks their title protects them.
